Restrictive Eating
Assessment and treatment for children with selective eating
Service Description
This assessment is generally for toddler or school age children who eat only a limited number of foods. It involves a detailed discussion of their medical and developmental history; an assessment of their oral motor and oral sensory skills; and their behavioural responses to feeding. Their oropharyngeal swallowing will be assessed during a mealtime observation during which they are exposed to both preferred and non preferred food items. Following this assessment the likely cause of their restrictive eating will be identified and recommendations made regarding the best treatment approach for your child. This may be strategies that you can complete independently, one on one therapy, or onward referral to other agencies.
